SUNDAY ARTS FAIR
16th September 2007
High Street Malvern, is a project recently set up by residents, traders and supporters of Great Malvern, with help from the Civic Trust, to rejuvenate the High Street in Great Malvern. One of the suggestions at the initial High St UK meeting was to have an Arts Fair on a Sunday to encourage weekend trade in the town. The first Sunday Fair took place on 16 September 2007..
Over 20 local artists exhibited their work on stalls, and local businesses such as iapetus gallery on Belle Vue Terrace, the Pepper & Oz Brasserie and The Great Malvern Deli also opened for the day. Several local musicians busked on the pavements. Local residents, artists and businesses supported this great day out!
Group Meetings:
High St. UK members come from the local business community, resident organisations, statutory agencies, voluntary sector, youth and faith groups. The group is split into four programme areas:
- Local Co-ordination
- Design
- Promotion
- Economic development
LOCAL CO-ORDINATION involves getting everyone working toward the same goal and assembling the appropriate human and financial resources to implement a High Street programme. This group decides the fundamental organisational structure of the programme.

DESIGN means getting the High Street area into top physical shape. Capitalising on its best assets, such as historic buildings and pedestrian-oriented streets, is just part of the story. An inviting atmosphere, created through attractive window displays, parking areas, building improvements, street furniture, signs, pavements, street lights, and landscaping, conveys a positive visual message about the area and what it has to offer. Design activities also include instilling good maintenance practices in the area, enhancing the physical appearance of the area by restoring historic buildings, encouraging appropriate new construction, developing sensitive design management systems, and long-term planning.

PROMOTION presents a positive image of the community and encourages consumers and investors to live, work, shop, play and invest in the High Street area. By marketing an area's unique characteristics to residents, investors, business owners, and visitors, an effective promotional strategy forges a positive image through advertising, retail promotional activity, special events, and marketing campaigns carried out by local volunteers. These activities improve consumer and investor confidence in the area and encourage commercial activity and investment.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT strengthens a community's existing economic assets while expanding and diversifying its economic base. The High Street program helps sharpen the competitiveness of existing business owners and recruits compatible new businesses and new economic uses to build a High Street area that responds to today's consumers' needs. Converting unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property also helps boost the profitability of the district.
